Red alert up for 5 hours over Visayas grid
MANILA, Philippines — Consumers in the Visayas may endure another wave of power interruptions on Thursday as the region continues to suffer from a thin electricity supply.
The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said the Visayas would be under a red alert for five hours, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A yellow alert would likewise be in effect from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.
A yellow alert indicates that available power reserves are thinning, meaning any unexpected plant outage could trigger service interruptions. A red alert indicates that the supply cannot meet the demand, raising the risk of rotational brownouts unless we manage consumption effectively.

The grid operator said the factors contributing to these power alerts were the unavailability of large coal plants in the region. Luzon could not also deliver additional electricity supply to the Visayas due to the emergency shutdown of a power facility. /pai
