Brownouts loom as Visayas grid hits red alert again
MANILA, Philippines — Consumers may experience rotational brownouts anew across the Visayas grid on Wednesday, as more coal plants in the region and in Mindanao remain offline.
In an advisory, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said the Visayas would be under a red alert from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The grid operator will raise a yellow alert from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The unavailability of some large coal facilities and limited power imports from Mindanao continue to cause persistent tight electricity supply.

Mindanao, which also provides additional supply to the Visayas, would face a yellow alert from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. due to outages at two coal plants.
A yellow alert indicates that available power reserves are thinning, meaning any unexpected plant outage could trigger service interruptions. A red alert indicates that the supply cannot meet the demand, raising the risk of rotational brownouts unless we manage consumption effectively. /pai
