Visayas grid under yellow alert anew
MANILA, Philippines – The Visayas grid remained constrained on Monday as persistent outages and rising demand prompted the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to issue a yellow alert.
In an advisory, NGCP said the yellow alert would be in effect from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The grid had 2,602 megawatts (MW) of available capacity against a projected peak demand of 2,376 MW.
NGCP said eight power plants have been on forced outage this month. Four plants have remained offline since June, seven since May, one since March, three since 2025, three since 2024, two since 2023 and one since 2021.
Another 14 power plants are operating at reduced capacity, leaving a total of 940.6 MW unavailable to the grid.

The grid operator said the continued unavailability of Visayas’ large coal-fired TVI Units 1 and 2, the recent outage of the 135-MW Panay Energy Development Corp. plant, and higher demand forecasts triggered the yellow alert.
The grid operator declares a yellow alert when the operating margin falls below the transmission grid’s contingency requirement, signaling tighter-than-normal power supply without necessarily causing power interruptions. /pai INQ
