MANILA, Philippines – Tight operating margins has prompted the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines to place the Visayas grid was under yellow alert on Wednesday afternoon, as several power plants remained unavailable.

In an advisory, the grid operator said the yellow alert will be in effect from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The grid has an available capacity of 2,641 megawatts (MW) against an expected peak demand of 2,510 MW.

NGCP said 879.7 MW remained unavailable due to power plant outages and derated capacities. It reported that eight plants have been on forced outage this month, while 14 plants are operating at reduced capacity.

The grid operator attributed the alert to the continued unavailability of TVI Units 1 and 2, the derating of PCPC to 70 MW due to a possible boiler tube leak, and the outages of PDPP1 Unit 3, PDPP3 Units C and E, CPPC Units 1 and 7 and BDPP Unit 3.
