Chemrez Technologies Inc., the country’s leading biodiesel, resins and oleochemicals producer, plans to strengthen its presence in countries where few local companies dare to go.

“We have found ‘exotic’ markets where others do not want to go to, like Tunisia and Lebanon. We have regular shipments to these countries,” said Dean Lao Jr., chief operating officer of Chemrez.

Lao added that Chemrez would likewise explore the possibility of exporting to South America.

To ensure that export demand will be met, Chemrez has earmarked $15 million, or roughly P645 million, to expand the capacity of its manufacturing facilities.

Chemrez said that under its strategic plan, export sales would eventually account for about half of its total turnover—from the current 20 percent—possibly as early as 2014.
