DTI makes trustmark voluntary until 2026

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has decided to make the contentious e-commerce trustmark voluntary until the end of 2026, giving “online businessmen more time to join at their own pace.”

Announcing the extension on Monday, the DTI still urged entrepreneurs to apply immediately for the trustmark, a digital badge for online merchants who adhere to fair and responsible e-commerce practices.
Trade Secretary Cristina Roque earlier said the agency had no problem with keeping the trustmark voluntary, especially if it would benefit consumers.
Online sellers
The DTI had initially required online sellers to secure the badge by Sept. 30, but later backtracked on the decision following concerns that the mandate would impose another expense and unnecessary burden on businesses. The badge costs P1,300 and is valid for one year.
Roque said the trustmark would undergo review again by Dec. 31, 2026.
