BOI warns vs investment registration scam

MANILA, Philippines — The Board of Investments (BOI) on Friday warned the public against fraudulent individuals and entities offering assistance in investment registration.
According to the BOI, there have been reports of unauthorized individuals using foreign mobile numbers to offer registration services on behalf of the government body.

“The BOI does not authorize any third party to collect fees, process applications, or conduct transitions related to BOI registration outside of its official channels,” it said.
An attached agency of the Department of Trade and Industry, the BOI is the lead government body in promoting and green-lighting investments.
Investments registered with the agency receive incentives such as income tax holidays, preferential tax rate on gross income, zero value-added taxes rating, as well as tax and duty-free importation of capital equipment, raw materials and supplies.

To avoid falling prey to fictitious investment schemes, the BOI urged the public to reach out through its official platforms or at any BOI office.
“Any engagements made outside of these or with any other individual or entity are unauthorized, and may expose the public to fraudulent schemes,” it said.
Those who encounter these scams are urged to report immediately to the National Bureau of Investigation for proper action. /dda
