PCCI calls on Philippine gov’t to use AI to improve governance

MANILA, Philippines — Amid persisting questions over irregularities in flood control projects, the Marcos administration is urged to harness artificial intelligence to enhance public service delivery and improve transparency.
Calls to “invest in, regulate and swiftly adapt” AI is one of the proposals put forward by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This was spelled out in a resolution presented during the 51st Philippine Business Conference and Expo in Pasay City held Oct. 20-21.
The PCCI said employing AI, automation and emerging digital technologies will enhance efficiency, transparency and effectiveness in public service delivery, while fostering innovation, data sovereignty and global competitiveness across both public and private sectors.

Among others, the PCCI proposed crafting a National AI and Digital Transformation Roadmap. This is intended to ensure “ethical, inclusive, and responsible use” of AI and emerging technologies across industries, government, and education while strengthening cybersecurity and digital governance frameworks.
The group called for expanding and modernizing digital and physical infrastructure to promote nationwide connectivity and digital inclusion, particularly in underserved areas.
The PCCI also called for encouraging public-private partnerships (PPPs) in developing interoperable, transparent to and secure digital systems that promote innovation, efficiency and citizen-centered governance.

On good governance and anti-corruption, the PCCI is “strongly urging” the government to put an end to unabated, continuing, and excessive corruption in government projects and transactions. /rwd
