Metrobank, GT foundations grant P45M to partners

MANILA, Philippines — Metrobank Foundation Inc. and GT Foundation Inc. on Friday awarded P45 million in grants to 30 of their partner organizations, to help scale up projects that are meant to create “inclusive opportunities for growth.”

These groups are in the health care, education, livelihood and disaster risk reduction sectors, among others.

Metrobank Foundation president Philip Francisco Dy said they were turning over the grants “with the hope that these will be the seeds that translate into lives changed, futures secured and communities strengthened.”

For the education sector, GT Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Ty family, currently implements its GT Reformation and Educational Assistance Program. This provides financial support for college students who excel in their studies, particularly those in their final year.

Among the partner beneficiaries are Adamson University, De La Salle Araneta University, Manila Tytana Colleges, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Cavite, Technological Institute of the Philippines and the University of the Philippines Diliman.

At the same time, GT Foundation is offering scholarship opportunities to students via its Scholarship for Technical Vocational Education Program.

Meanwhile, Metrobank Foundation has partnered with ChildFund Philippines to provide learning kits in typhoon-affected schools in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas in Sorsogon province. It is also working with Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation Inc. to run a remedial reading program in Saranggani, and the University of the Philippines Los Baños to offer supplementary reading lessons to younger students.

Health and wellness

Apart from education, the two foundations also extended aid to partners focusing on health and wellness programs, including Planet Water Foundation, Manila Doctors Hospital, CBCP Caritas Foundation, Childhope Philippines, GMA Kapuso Foundation and Philippine Business for Social Progress.

They are likewise supporting livelihood development through Bayo Manila Foundation, East-West Seed Foundation, Good Neighbors Philippines and ICCP Group Foundation.

For disaster preparedness and other “special interventions,” Metrobank Foundation and GT Foundation are working with RenewHealth, Magbassa Kita Foundation, Department of Foreign Affairs Ladies Foundation, International Bazaar Foundation, Congressional Spouses Foundation, Senate Spouses Foundation and Magna Anima Teachers College. /rwd
