MANILA, Philippines — The chief of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and Bureau of Customs tendered their courtesy resignations on Friday.
This was shortly after Malacanang confirmed the retention of their parent agency’s chief, Finance Secretary Ralph Recto.
BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui said in a statement he fully supported the call of President Marcos for accountability in public service.

Lumagui said the challenge of the President to realign government with public expectation was “appropriate and timely.”
“This call for accountability shows the commitment of the president to establish a government that serves the people,” Lumagui said.
“As such I am tendering my courtesy resignation as the commissioner of the internal revenue in order to give the chief executive a freehand in evaluating my performance in pursuit of further improving public service under his administration,” he added.
