Trade, DICT secretaries step down

MANILA, Philippines — Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque on Thursday said she has tendered her resignation in response to President Marcos’ call to vacate the Cabinet.

“Yes, I already tendered my resignation,” Roque told the Inquirer, when asked about the matter.

The Presidential Communications Office announced her appointment to the post two days after the former Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual hadf announced his resignation back in Aug. 2024.

Since her appointment, Roque has prioritized micro, small, and medium enterprises, emphasizing that they comprise 99 percent of businesses in the Philippines and employ about 60 percent of the country’s workforce.

Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda likewise said he would tender his courtesy resignation.

“We stand by the President and serve at his pleasure. I will file my courtesy resignation,” Aguda said in a statement on Thursday.

“The DICT will continue to work to deliver the President’s mandate for the Filipino people,” he added.

Aguda assumed office only in March.
