Real estate developer ArthaLand has pledged to cut its energy use by 14 percent and its potable water usage by as much as 40 percent in the Arya Residences, as part of its goal of attaining ecological sustainability.

According to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), this pledge was part of Earth Hour’s “60+ Program”—a year-long campaign to promote energy efficiency, renewable energy usage and climate adaptation strategies for individuals, groups and corporations.

The “60+ Program” campaign was crafted to ensure that the energy-saving message of Earth Hour—a self-imposed 60-minute blackout done yearly—will translate into actions that will last for more than just an hour, WWF said in a statement.

“Going green makes perfect business sense, since energy and water-efficiency always translates into savings. Though redesigning current systems and practices takes time, the resources saved will be good not only for residents – but in minimizing our contribution to global emissions to retard climate change,” explained Kate A. Ilagan, VP for projects and business development at ArthaLand.
