MANILA, Philippines — Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), the country’s largest power distributor, will be “on full alert” to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the nationwide elections on May 12, Monday.
In a statement on Saturday, the company said its personnel and crews were on call to immediately address any power issues in its franchise area.
The utility giant said its crews were already mobilized in more than 3,000 polling precincts, canvassing centers, and election sites.
“Historically, Meralco’s franchise has had no major troubles during elections. Nonetheless, we have put in place contingency measures in case of isolated outages or service interruptions,” said Joe Zaldarriaga, vice president and head of corporate communications at Meralco.
The group’s franchise area covers Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal and parts of Pampanga, Laguna, Batangas and Quezon.
