Cosco nets P3.68B on higher consumer demand

MANILA, Philippines — Recovering consumer demand lifted the profit of Cosco Capital Inc. in the first quarter by 7.6 percent to P3.68 billion.
The Co family-led retail holding firm said in a regulatory filing on Friday its revenues had likewise climbed by 11.5 percent to P56.7 billion.
Grocery retailing under Puregold Price Club Inc. and S&R Membership Shopping Club did the heavy lifting. It contributed 72 percent to the group’s total bottom line.
Puregold earnings grew by 6.5 percent to P2.6 billion due to strong revenue growth. Its top line was up by a tenth to P52.4 billion.
The Keepers Holdings Inc., the liquor distribution arm of Cosco, booked a 14.3-percent gain in its net income. This reached P690 million on higher sales of imported brandy Alfonso.
The segment’s revenues also surged by 20.9 percent to P4.06 billion.
Commercial real estate, meanwhile, had a 5.3-percent increase in net income to P273 million during the period.
Office Warehouse Inc. saw a 2.6-percent rise in its earnings to P30 million during the quarter.
Cosco has yet to release its full quarterly report.
