Philippine debut: Vietnamese firm builds $15.8-M Bataan solar project

MANILA, Philippines — CN Green Roof Asia, a solar rooftop and battery provider in Vietnam, has begun construction works for a $15.8-million solar project in Hermosa, Bataan.
The solar facility being developed in the province is rated at 22.785 megawatt peak, its maximum potential output. It is expected to generate about 32.8 gigawatt hours of clean power per year for 30,000 individuals.
Green Roof eyes commercial operations of the project – its first development in the Philippines – by the end of this year.
“We’re proud to bring our global expertise to the Philippines and help accelerate its clean energy goals,” Green Roof chief operating officer Steve Rawles said in a statement.
‘Actively looking’
The company is still “actively looking” for other potential projects to help accelerate the country’s clean energy shift.
Climate Fund Managers, a blended finance investment manager, and Norfund, the Norwegian government’s Investment fund for developing countries, established Green Roof as a joint venture company in 2021.
The group is engaged in the development of Southeast Asia’s renewable energy market, particularly in Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines.

P10-B war chest
Late last year, the company said it had earmarked P10 billion to build its clean energy portfolio in the Philippines over the next two years, with a focus on solar and battery projects.

“Building on our extensive experience in solar rooftops, we are excited to enter the utility-scale market in the Philippines. We have developed a robust pipeline of high-impact projects,” Rob Santler, chief executive officer of Green Roof, previously said.
It also teamed up with solar developer Solana Renewable Energy Holdings for its Philippine projects.
Green Roof said at that time that its entry into the local market would help boost the government’s target of increasing renewable energy’s share in the electricity generation mix to 35 percent by 2030.
