MANILA, Philippines — Millions of customers of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) will face higher electricity bills this month, with the average household that consumes 200 kilowatt-hours (kWh) seeing an increase of around P145.
The power distribution giant announced Friday a rate increase for the April billing cycle, pushing the overall rate to P13.0127 per kWh from P12.2901 per kWh in March.
The Manuel Pangilinan-led firm said the jump in electricity rate was due to the generation charge, which went up by P0.7278 per kWh.
The generation charge usually accounts for over 50 percent of the monthly power bill.
