MANILA, Philippines — The local stock barometer opened higher by 3.19 percent on Thursday after US President Donald Trump temporarily paused some of his tariffs.

The Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) jumped by 191.38 points to 6,197.72 as investors digested the news.

Just hours after his “Liberation Day” tariffs took effect, Trump declared a 90-day pause for the countries that did not retaliate against his policy.

This sent Wall Street soaring to some of its best trading days in history, with the optimism spilling over to the PSEi.
