MANILA, Philippines – Port, gaming and infrastructure tycoon Enrique Razon has raised his stake in the African continent with the acquisition of a leisure estate with a golf course in the municipality of Cape Winelands in South Africa.

Bloomberg reported on March 25 that entities associated with Razon had bought Pearl Valley, a Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, alongside the hotel on the property.

The seller is a group of shareholders that include South African businessman and Olympic swimming gold medal winner, Ryk Neethling, it was further reported.

Pearl Valley, which opened in 2003, offers a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course with a view of the majestic mountain ranges, based on its website.

The South African government’s anti-trust authority has approved the purchase, Bloomberg also noted.

Razon is no stranger to South Africa. In 2023, his flagship business, International Container Terminal Services Inc., bagged a 25-year contract to operate and develop a terminal handling nearly half of South Africa’s port traffic. – Doris Dumlao-Abadilla
