MANILA, Philippines – The local bourse ended its brief stay in the positive territory on Friday as the index mirrored losses in Wall Street amid economic uncertainties in the United States.
By the end of the session, the benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) lost 0.89 percent, or 56.38 points, to close at 6,266.75.
Likewise, the broader All Shares Index shed 0.49 percent, or 18.2 points, to 3,727.12.
Trading was stronger than the average, with value turnover at P11.02 billion. This is higher than the year-to-date average of P5.43 billion, Philstocks Financial Inc. data show.

Japhet Tantiangco, research head at Philstocks, said the PSEi took cues from the drop in US indices due to President Donald Trump’s protectionist policies.
This caused the American central bank to raise its inflation projection and delay rate cuts.
Property firms saw the steepest decline as SM Prime Holdings Inc. slipped by 3.69 percent to P23.50 each.
Investors also opted to shed their shares in conglomerates, with SM Investments Corp. and Ayala Corp. both ending lower.
DigiPlus Interactive Corp. was the most actively traded stock as it fell by 4.69 percent to P36.60 per share.
It was followed by RL Commercial REIT Inc., down 2.58 percent to P6.43; International Container Terminal Services Inc., down 0.8 percent to P371; BDO Unibank Inc., down 0.43 percent to P160.30; and SM Investments, down 1.23 percent to P800.
Other actively traded stocks were Bank of the Philippine Islands, down 0.52 percent to P134.50; Jollibee Foods Corp., down 4.03 percent to P238; Ayala, down 2.65 percent to P588; and Ayala Land Inc., one of the index’s rare gainers as it climbed by 0.89 percent to P22.70 each.
Losers edged out gainers, 108 to 89, while 50 companies closed unchanged, stock exchange data also showed.
