MANILA, Philippines — Customers of Razon-led Manila Water Co. Inc. will see a slight increase in water bill in the second quarter as the utility regulator approved a 4-centavo per cubic meter rate hike to allow recovery of losses from currency fluctuations.
The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) Regulatory Office announced that its Board of Trustees had approved the implementation of the foreign currency differential adjustment (FCDA) for April to June this year.
FCDA, a tariff mechanism reviewed quarterly, enables Manila Water and Maynilad Water Services to either recover losses or return gains arising from fluctuations in peso value against foreign currencies. These adjustments are necessary as the water providers must service foreign currency-denominated loans used to fund water and sewerage system improvements.
