Prince Hypermart aims for 100 stores by 2030
Cebu-based retail chain Prince Hypermart is setting its sights on a new milestone.
By 2030, just five years after its 35th anniversary in 2025, the company aims to operate over 100 branches across the Philippines. This bold target underscores its commitment to delivering affordable, quality goods and services to underserved communities nationwide.
With its mantra of “Serving the Underserved,” Prince Hypermart has firmly established itself as a reliable name in the retail industry. Currently, the chain operates 72 branches across Visayas, Mindanao, and select Luzon areas, positioning it for significant growth in the next few years.
Rina Janine Go, Chief Merchandising, Marketing, and Distribution Officer at Prince Hypermart, shared insights on how to achieve this goal.
“This plan represents the next chapter of our growth story. It’s about reaching more Filipinos who need us, especially in rural and developing areas where affordable yet high-quality goods can make a real difference.”
Scaling Up Strategically
Reaching the 100-store goal will require careful planning, strategic execution, and adaptability. The company has already demonstrated its ability to grow in challenging markets through its extensive distribution centers, such as the 10,000-square-meter facility in Agusan del Norte and an additional hub soon to open in Cebu. These centers enhance supply chain efficiency, ensuring consistent product delivery even to far-flung communities.
The retailer’s measured approach to growth allows it to adapt to regional differences while maintaining its core mission. “We are continuing to study, explore, and strategize,” explained Go. “Understanding the distinct needs of each community we enter is key, and so is maintaining competitive pricing without sacrificing quality.”
Prince Hypermart has also taken its first steps into Luzon, with seven locations in provinces such as Quezon, Palawan, and Masbate. These Luzon outlets act as a foundation for future expansion while providing valuable insights into the complex needs of this diverse market.
A Legacy of Growth and Community Impact
Prince Hypermart has come a long way since it began as Prince Warehouse Club in 1990. Founded by Robert Go in Cebu, the company started with the mission of providing affordable products to serve underserved Filipino families. Over the years, under the leadership of the second-generation Go siblings, the retailer has grown exponentially while staying true to its mission.
Unlike many large retailers focusing on urban centers, Prince Hypermart carves out its niche by prioritizing rural and developing areas. The company not only offers accessible prices and modern retail convenience but also creates opportunities for local economic growth. For instance, programs such as the Asenso Negosyo Club and the My Suki online platform empower sari-sari store owners with affordable goods and business tools.
This unique focus on grassroots-level impact has earned Prince Hypermart a loyal customer base and strengthened its presence in Visayas and Mindanao. It plans to replicate this success as it expands into Luzon and beyond.
A Recognized Leader in Inclusive Business
Prince Retail Group, the parent company of Prince Hypermart, received the prestigious ASEAN Inclusive Business Award in 2024 during the 7th ASEAN Inclusive Business Forum held in Lao PDR. This recognition highlights the company’s outstanding efforts in promoting inclusive and sustainable business practices across the region.
One of the key reasons for this award is Prince Retail’s strong support for small business owners, particularly sari-sari store operators, by providing resources and opportunities to help them grow. The company has also played a crucial role in job creation through its expanding network of distribution centers and retail outlets, offering employment to local communities.
In line with its commitment to sustainability, Prince Retail has incorporated eco-friendly architectural designs in its stores, helping minimize environmental impact while reducing operational costs. Lastly, the company promotes financial inclusion by offering micro-financing programs designed to empower small-scale entrepreneurs.
Beyond Numbers—Growth With Purpose
While the goal of 100 stores showcases Prince Hypermart’s aspirations as a retail leader, its growth plans are about more than just numbers. The company aims to continue making a tangible difference in the lives of millions of Filipinos. Each new store represents a milestone in physical expansion and an opportunity to bring affordable products and meaningful support to local communities.
This vision of growth with purpose is what sets Prince Hypermart apart in the highly competitive retail landscape. By fusing business goals with its mission to uplift underserved populations, the company continues to redefine what it means to be a retail chain with a heart.
The Road to 2030
As Prince Hypermart approaches its 35th year in 2025, the company’s focus is as much on the future as on reflecting on its achievements. Its commitment to surpassing 100 stores by 2030 highlights its ambition to remain a trusted name in the Filipino retail industry.
With its proven track record and unwavering dedication to community-building, Prince Hypermart is poised to meet the challenge head-on. For millions of underserved Filipinos, 2030 will not just mark a business milestone for the company but also represent the growth of opportunities, access, and hope brought to their doorsteps.
