MPTC earmarks P35-B funding for expansion plans in 2025

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), which operates the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) and Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex), has earmarked P35 billion this year to fund its expansion projects for easier road connectivity.
NLEx Corp. chief finance officer Maria Theresa Wells, on the sidelines of an event in Valenzuela last week, said most of the budget would go to projects in the south.
In particular, the Pangilinan-led company is working on Cavitex C5 Link Expressway and the remaining portion of Cavite-Laguna Expressway (Calax).

The 7.7-kilometer (km) Cavitex C5 Link connects motorists from Makati and Taguig to Parañaque, Las Piñas and Cavite.
The Laguna segment of Calax is fully operational. The entire stretch of Cavite segment, meanwhile, is targeted to be completed this year.
Calax is a 44.57-km expressway that starts at Centennial Road in Kawit, Cavite and ends at the Greenfield property in Biñan, Laguna.
In the north, MPTC has lined up the NLEx C5 Link Segment 8.2-Section 1A and NLEx Phase 3 Widening projects.
The C5 Link project is a two-km toll road linking Mindanao Avenue to Quirino Highway in Novaliches.
Road widening project
The road widening project runs from NLEx San Fernando to Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway Spur in Pampanga. Included in this project are the installation of roadway lighting infrastructure and the construction of Mexico interchange.
Last month, the NLEx operator budgeted P1.4 billion to install automatic license plate recognition cameras on all its toll lanes and deploy high-frequency antennas that can read RFID (radio frequency identification) stickers more efficiently.
Overseas, MPTC is set to build an P80-billion elevated expressway linking east and south Jakarta by the second half of this year, expanding its toll road portfolio in Indonesia.
The 21.6-km toll road will be constructed above the Jakarta Outer Ring Road-1 (JORR-1).
JORR-1 is being operated by PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol (JTT), whose 35-percent stake was acquired by MPTC and partner Singaporean investor GIC last year.
