Luzon grid on ‘yellow’ alert on March 5
MANILA, Philippines – The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has placed the Luzon grid under a “yellow” alert on Wednesday— the first alert issued this year — due to the increase in demand, with some power plants facing outages.
In an advisory, the NGCP placed the alert from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on March 5.
A yellow alert means the power supply can still meet demand, but it serves as a warning that when a power plant breaks down one way or another, it will result in brownouts.
A red alert, meanwhile, means that supply is no longer sufficient to meet demand. Brownouts could happen if demand is not managed.
The NGCP said available capacity at the Luzon grid was 12,488 megawatts (MW), while the peak demand reached 11,829 MW.

The Visayas and Mindanao grids, on the other hand, are operating normally.
