Total putting up 20 more gas stations in ’12
MANILA, Philippines—Total Philippines Corp. is further expanding its retail network this year with the construction of 20 new gas stations.
In an interview with reporters, Total Philippines manager for corporate communications Malou Espina said the plan would bring the company’s network to 194 stations from 174 stations as of end-2011.
“Luzon continues to be a growth area for us. We will also continue to grow our network in the Visayas, specifically Iloilo, Cebu and Negros,” she added. This expansion plan is being supported by the establishment of three new satellite depots that will serve the increasing fuel demand in the areas where Total will be expanding its presence.
According to Espina, the expansion this year will be more aggressive compared to the previous years when the company would usually put up only, on the average, 15 stations a year.
“We continue to invest in growing our network. The Philippines continues to be an important market (for parent firm Total SA) as we remain confident in the local market,” Espina said.
Plans to expand in Mindanao, however, remained uncertain.
“Mindanao will always be a consideration when opportunities present themselves,” Espina noted, adding that there were certain key criteria that should be met to ensure consistent supply in the event that the company would decide to expand in Mindanao.
As of end-2011, Total has invested about P5 billion in its Philippine operations.—Amy R. Remo
