The Yuchengco Group’s 19.6-megawatt (MW) solar power park in Nueva Ecija has started injecting power into the Luzon grid, just a month after construction works were completed.

In a disclosure on Monday, PetroEnergy Resources Corp. (PERC) said the San Jose facility could generate about 29 million kilowatt hours of electricity every year.

The San Jose park’s activation followed its registration to the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market through the Independent Energy Market Operator of the Philippines.

The project likewise secured the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines’ provisional authority to connect to the power grid system.

“The facility was successfully energized as a load unit last Dec. 11, which led to the timely completion of the testing of the substation transformer and other electrical components prior to grid export,” said Dave Gadiano, PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) assistant vice president for Power Markets.

The project is owned by San Jose Green Energy Corp., one of four special purpose companies under Yuchengco-led Rizal Green Energy Corp. (RGEC). RGEC is a joint venture between PGEC and Japan-based Taisei Corp.

RGEC’s portfolio also includes the Dagohoy solar project in Bohol rated at 27 megawatt peak (MWp)—its maximum potential output; the 25-MWp Bugallon solar project in Pangasinan; and the 40-MWp Limbauan solar project in Isabela.

Meanwhile, according to Maria Victoria Olivar, PGEC vice president for commercial operations, the San Jose solar facility was the group’s second utility-scale solar farm to be activated this year.

Aside from this solar project, Olivar said the company also went through the partial commissioning of the 13.2-MW Nabas-2 wind power project in Aklan last April 4 and the 360-kilowatt peak Mapua Malayan Colleges of Mindanao rooftop solar facility in Davao City last July.

“These new RE facilities not only enlarge and spread PGEC’s power operations across the country but as significant will increase our future revenues,” Olivar said. —Lisbet K. Esmael
