Reflecting on 40 years of FedEx in the Philippines: Celebrating four decades of growth and innovation
As we bring our 40th anniversary celebrations to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we’ve had over the past four decades—a journey defined by growth, innovation, and a deep commitment to our people and the communities we serve.
As the first Filipino and female Managing Director of FedEx Philippines, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing how our company has become a vital part of the Filipino community, helping local businesses connect with global opportunities and making a positive impact along the way.
Our journey in the Philippines began with a commitment to enhancing connectivity and market access, and over the years, we’ve made significant strides toward that goal. One notable milestone is our establishment of the FedEx Clark Gateway in Pampanga in 2021. This state-of-the-art facility is capable of sorting 9,000 parcels per hour and supports the growing e-commerce demand with dedicated cold storage areas for temperature-sensitive shipments.
Throughout this year, we have continued to enhance our services to meet the evolving needs of our customers. The expansion of FedEx Authorized ShipCenters and launch of our freight solutions have streamlined the shipping process, offering greater convenience and reliability for our customers.
Major milestones of FedEx operations in the Philippines:
- 2016: FedEx expanded its global transportation and network assets by acquiring TNT, which significantly enhanced the company’s service capabilities in the Philippines. This strategic acquisition allowed FedEx to strengthen its presence and better serve local businesses, facilitating smoother international trade and logistics operations.
- 2017: FedEx invested USD 2.15 million dollars in two new facilities: the Philippine IT Center in Bonifacio Global City, designed to boost regional software development capabilities, and the APAC Trade Facilitation Center in Clark, supporting clearance preparation and administrative tasks across Asia-Pacific markets. These investments bolstered the infrastructure needed to improve supply chain performance and trade.
- 2021: FedEx opened the Clark Gateway facility in Pampanga, a USD 30 million-dollar investment. This state-of-the-art facility can sort up to 9,000 parcels per hour and has dedicated areas for large freight and temperature-sensitive shipments like vaccines and fresh produce. As part of our commitment to carbon neutrality, all ground service equipment in Clark is electric. The upgraded facility meets the growing demand for e-commerce and bulk shipments, serving as a critical logistics hub in the region.
- 2023: FedEx expanded its FedEx Authorized ShipCenter (FASC) locations to over 1,100 retail points across the Philippines. We also launched a self-collection service in all Light Rail Transit 1 stations. These services significantly increased convenience for customers by offering more options for package drop-off and collection. This focus on customer-centric solutions supported the rapid growth of the e-commerce sector, a key driver of the logistics industry’s expansion in the Philippines.
- 2024: Announced the expansion of the FedEx Gateway in Clark, doubling the facility’s current size.
Commitment to People and Communities
At FedEx, we are driven by our People-Service-Profit (PSP) philosophy, the belief that we can only fulfill our mission to deliver the Purple Promise through outstanding customer service and profitability when we invest in our people. This philosophy has been central to our success in the Philippines, where we have fostered an inclusive and diverse workplace.
Our commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Opportunity (DEI&O) is showcased through initiatives like the Empowering Women Scholarship Program with Zonta Club of Makati and Environs, and our support for team members with disabilities. These efforts have earned us accolades such as the “Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion” award and the National Council on Disability Affairs’ Disability Inclusive Workplace Award.
Our commitment extends to the communities we serve through our global CSR program FedEx Cares, delivering positive impact to Filipinos. Initiatives like the Gawad Kalinga Safe Water Source project and coastal cleanup, tree planting with the Haribon Foundation, and upcycling FedEx workwear demonstrate our dedication to sustainability and community development.
Over the decades, FedEx has been a key force in transforming the Philippine logistics industry, driving economic growth, and enhancing supply chain efficiency across the nation. True to our commitment of making every FedEx experience outstanding, we remain dedicated to delivering top-notch logistics services and making supply chains smarter for everyone, ensuring that it continues to lead the way in supporting the country’s evolving needs.
