Philippine Seven with over 4,000 stores in 40th year

The Philippine licensee for 7-Eleven convenience stores is planning to end this year with 4,100 branches, with the expansion partly driven by sales growth in the urban capital region.

Philippine Seven Corp. (PSC) head of finance and investor relations Lawrence de Leon says the retailer currently has 4,022 stores.

“Recently, we are seeing growth resuming in Metro Manila. That’s why in terms of market development plan, new stores are also anticipated to open,” he says.

In a follow-up message to the Inquirer, he says store sales at their Metro Manila branches grew 8 percent so far this year, faster than the 5 percent growth registered nationwide.

The company is also celebrating this year the establishment of its 4,000th store, which is located at the Newport District in Pasay City.

The first 7-Eleven store was opened back in Feb. 29, 1984, at the corner of Edsa and Kamias Road in Metro Manila, according to the PSC.

The company plans to spend P4.5 billion this year to refurbish old stores while rolling out new ones.

Luzon currently serves as 7-Eleven’s largest market with nearly 3,000 stores, while Visayas and Mindanao have more than 500 and 400 stores, respectively.
