Volvo safety technologies contribute to safer roads
True to the promise of safety, Volvo Philippines supports the Road Safety Forum organized by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC) held last February 22 at PNP Multi-Purpose Center, Camp Crame, Quezon City.
DoTC, as part of its direction in support of the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan 2011-2020 (PRSAP) and the United Nations declaration of the Decade of Action for Road Safety (DARS), has put together a multi-sectoral forum/workshop on road safety to strengthen the partnership between the government and the private sector in reducing road-accident fatalities. The aim is to make a collective effort in implementing the Projects, Activities and Programs (PAP) contained in the PRSAP and summarized under the acronym I SWEAR.
A Pedestrian Detection Technology Safety Demo was conducted by Volvo Philippines with Transportation Assistant Secretary Dante Lantin and Philippine National Police Chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome as part of the program of the event.
Volvo Vision 2020: A future where cars don’t crash
For decades, Volvo has created cars that encourage people to enjoy life and help protect it in the event of an accident. Many of the most important car-safety innovations are the hallmark of Volvo, and hundreds of thousands of people all over the world can say they’re still alive, thanks to Volvo ingenuity. This people-centric technology is designed to support the driver and help protect the occupants in an accident—without taking the fun out of driving. Volvo’s aim is that by year 2020, no one will be injured or killed in a Volvo. That is why Volvo continues to work with governments and nongovernmental organizations around the world to get car safety on their agendas. Of course, this will not happen overnight and Volvo recognizes that it will take years of innovation and cooperation to create cars that don’t crash. But a lot of technologies and know-hows already exist. For example, Volvo’s City Safety technology, which is considered to be one of the most significant technological breakthroughs, is in collision avoidance.
Volvo Pedestrian Detection Technology Simulation
In support of DoTC’s program, Volvo Philippines has conducted a Pedestrian Detection Crash Simulation where the latest sports sedan model, the all-new Volvo S60 T6, drove straight into a pedestrian dummy and automatically braked to avoid hitting it. This demonstration successfully proves Volvo’s latest preventive safety technology can actually save lives in the event of an accident between cars and pedestrians.
Volvo also extended its dedication to safety by protecting road users through pedestrian avoidance technology. Using a digital camera and radar to constantly scan the road ahead and warns you when it identifies shapes as people who are at risk in front of your car, this system will employ full brake force to stop your vehicle—if you don’t react in time.
