Netizens poke fun at national ID chaos after canceled deal with supplier

MANILA, Philippines — Many netizens poked fun at late delivery and print quality issues of the national ID cards following the contract termination of the card supplier.

Hundreds of individuals expressed their sentiments under a Facebook post of INQUIRER.net about the termination of the contract.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) recently terminated its contract with AllCard Inc. for failing to meet its obligations under the deal, causing delays in production and delivery of national ID cards.

Netizens shared that they have not received their IDs years after registration, with some of them comparing the timeline to some events in their lives.

“Apo ko grade 3 pa ng apply nat’l ID, eto grade 6 na d pa din dumadating,” a Facebook user commented.

(My grandchild applied for a national ID when they were in grade 3. They’re now in grade 6 and the ID still has not arrived.)

“Until now di pa dumating ID ko. Matindi pa sa relasyon mo going 5 years. Terminated na,” another netizen said.

(My ID still has not arrived until now. It is going stronger than your [romantic] relationship of five years. It’s terminated now.)

Awaiting the delivery of their national ID, a Facebook user asked: “Sabay na ba sa senior ID yung sakin?” (Will it be delivered together with my senior [citizen] ID?)

A netizen also asked if the contract termination will cause delay to the delivery of their ID.

“Sus so lalong madedelay pala yung National ID card ko? Eh mag-3yrs ko na yang hinihintay.”

(So [the delivery] of my national ID card will be further delayed? I have been waiting for three years.)

Meanwhile, others said that the national ID system is a ‘failure’ and a ‘waste of money’, sharing experiences on the quality of laminated cards they have received. Some also expressed frustration on how they can’t use their IDs anymore due to the print quality.

“Over 4 years and still waiting. 2 of 7 from our household received so far. What a joke and waste–my nose has rubbed off already and you can’t even use it as a primary ID,” a netizen said.

“Hindi pa handa poor quality yong picture magkasalongat sa totoo mong mukha,” a Facebook user commented.

(It is not yet ready. The picture is of poor quality, it is different from your real appearance.)

“very poor quality.. Wla na muka ko sa sa id. Kaya hindi ko magamit Nat’l ID q.. Tpos yun lng ang meron aq na valid id,” a netizen added.

(Very poor quality. The print of my face is erased in the ID, that’s why I can’t use it. It’s the only valid ID I have.)

In addition, a netizen aired concern on their personal and private information.

“Nakow. Paano na yung data namin. Finger print, eye color, contact info, etc. etc. ?? Hindi ko pa nga na receive ID ko, nag email na ako, waley pa din. Ngayon, wala na supplier. Anubayan!”

(How about our data? Fingerprint, eye color, contact information, etc.? I have not received my ID. I emailed them already but it’s of no use. Now, there’s no supplier. What is this?)

PSA said on Friday that the issuance of national IDs will continue despite the recent termination of contract with the supplier.

“We affirm our unwavering commitment to delivering a reliable and secure national ID system, ensuring that every registered person will receive their National ID,” said PSA in a statement.

Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Kiko” Pimentel III is eyeing a probe into the contract termination process, stating that it might cause further delay in the making and delivery of the national IDs.

According to the BSP, only 57.9 million prepersonalized national ID cards were produced between 2022 and 2023, falling short of 58.1 million from the target of 116 million cards for Filipinos.
