Holcim spends P370M for sustainable production in La Union plant

MANILA, Philippines – Cement manufacturer Holcim Philippines is investing P370 million to build storage and feeding facilities in La Union to accelerate decarbonization and circularity of operations.

Holcim Philippines said in a Tuesday statement that the fresh investments will raise its Bacnotan plant’s utilization of low-carbon alternative fuels and raw materials to 40 percent.

Last Aug. 9, the company forged an agreement with Sinoma CBMI PH Construction Corp. to build the facilities which are expected to be completed by second half next year.

The China-based Sinoma CBMI has been Holcim’s global partner for over 20 years.

We are honored to contribute to Holcim Philippines’ decarbonization and sustainability goals through the application of new technologies,” Sinoma CBMIPH Construction general manager Zeng Youbing said.

Since 2018, Holcim Philippines has cut its carbon footprint by over 20 percent by making more blended cements, using waste instead of coal, switching to renewable energy, and boosting operational efficiency.
