Marcos names Cristina Aldeguer - Roque as acting DTI chief

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. noted Cristina Aldeguer-Roque’s dedication and leadership in the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector in naming her as new chief of the DTI.

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Cristina Aldeguer – Roque as the acting secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), said Malacañang Friday.

Roque’s appointment came after the resignation of former Trade Sec. Alfredo Pascual which is effective today, August 2.

According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) in a statement, Marcos noted Roque’s dedication and leadership in the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector in naming her as new chief of the DTI.

“The President emphasized the importance of the Department of Trade and Industry and the need for capable leadership,” the PCO said.

“The DTI plays a pivotal role in our nation’s economic growth, particularly in supporting MSMEs. He noted Roque’s dedication and leadership in the MSME sector make her an excellent choice for the position,” it added.

Prior to being appointed as chief of DTI in acting capacity, the PCO said Roque served as the DTI undersecretary for MSME development group.

While serving as the undersecretary, Roque oversaw the Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, the Bureau of Marketing Development and Promotions, the OTOP Program Management Office, and the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Management Office.

She also managed the operations of the Small Business Corporation and the Cooperative Development Authority.

Roque holds a bachelor of science degree in Industrial Management Engineering, minor in Chemical Engineering, from De La Salle University.

She was also known for being the president and chief executive officer of the local clothing brand Kamiseta.

Roque effectively replaces Pascual, who resigned to return to the private sector and spend time with his family.
