The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has placed the Luzon grid under yellow alert on Wednesday afternoon to evening due to a thin power supply.

The country’s grid operator said this alert status is being issued “when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.”

In an advisory, the yellow alert will be in place from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

It said the tripping of the 417.4-megawatt San Gabriel power plant contributed to this.

The Visayas and Mindanao grid, meanwhile, are operating normally.

As of 6 p.m., the NGCP said the yellow alert status has been lifted following a decrease in forecast demand.
