New as well as longtime tenants at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 3 were half-expecting it, but when reality finally bit, it still hurt.
We’re talking about their lease contracts being terminated by the Manila International Airport Authority to give way to the start of the modernization and expansion of Naia by San Miguel Corp.-led New Naia Infra Corp., which won the highly coveted P170.6-billion project to rehabilitate, operate and maintain the country’s primary gateway.

Biz Buzz sources say that these tenants, which include Cebu Pacific and AirAsia Philippines, had been given just 40 days to vacate their spaces so that the work can commence before the formal takeover of the consortium scheduled on Sept. 14.
It is perhaps a necessary move as the Department of Transportation is bent on ensuring the success of the long-overdue rehabilitation of Naia. But that will also mean added costs—even losses—for some tenants, since some have not been there long enough to recoup their investments.
Then there’s the impact on rank and file and service workers who had rented houses near the airport to save money.
The ticketing offices had already been cleared, to be followed by the other spaces.
As to whether the tenants will contest the termination of their lease contracts remains to be seen. But as of now, the writing is one the wall. It’s time to go. —Tina Arceo-Dumlao
Cebu Pacific’s choice
Soon, Gokongwei-led Cebu Pacific will announce which aircraft supplier will fulfill its giant order of 100 to 150 aircraft as the airline ramps up its capacity in preparation for further air travel demand.
The choice is really just between A and B—Airbus and Boeing—the world’s biggest aircraft manufacturers.

Cebu Pacific previously said it would make its final choice by the end of the first quarter but decided to further study its options. After all, the aircraft order has a price tag of a whopping $12 billion.
Xander Lao, president and chief commercial officer of the airline, earlier said an announcement would be made before the first half ends—which is just now days away.

According to ALI, the PAWTies will be hosted at Pet Park in Parklinks, a mixed-use development along the C5 corridor.
Every week, ALI says they will celebrate different canine breeds, from our favorite Aspins to the hyper Golden Retrievers.
The first PAWTY—“Grand PAWTY Weekend—on Saturday, June 29, will welcome all breeds with games, prizes, toys, treats and accessories, thanks to various “generous” sponsors, ALI said.
It won’t be all fun and games, of course. To raise awareness and support for animal welfare activities, CARA Welfare Philippines and Philippine Pet Birth Control Center Foundation will also be at the Pet Park every weekend.
