Customs exceeds May collection goal

MANILA, Philippines—The Bureau of Customs (BOC) said on Tuesday it has exceeded its revenue collection target for May 2024.

In a statement, the BOC said revenue collection in May hit P81.75 billion, surpassing its target of P79.62 billion by 2.68 percent.

The number was also 4.91 percent higher than its revenue in May 2023 at P77.93 billion.

From January to May 2024, the agency said its collection reached P381.35 billion, which exceeded its target of P366.05 by 4.18 percent or P15.299 billion.

“Non-traditional sources, like audits and public auctions, also boosted revenue collection. Intensified border control and improved trade facilitation further contributed to consistent revenue efficiency,” the BOC said.

Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said in the same statement that the agency will continue to contribute to the economy of the country and will sustain its momentum.

“[T]he BOC remains steadfast in its commitment to enhancing revenue collection and contributing to the economic growth of the country. We are proud of this achievement and will continue to work tirelessly to maintain this positive momentum,” Rubio said.
