Luzon grid on yellow alert — NGCP

MANILA, Philippines — The Luzon grid will be placed on yellow alert on Thursday afternoon and evening, said National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

This comes after the grid was placed under red alert for three consecutive days.

In its advisory, NGCP said the Luzon grid will be placed under yellow alert from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

NGCP issues a yellow alert “when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.”

Current available capacity in the area is 13,591 megawatts, while peak demand is 12,478 megawatts.

A total of 3,154.3 megawatts are currently unavailable to the grid due to 16 power plants currently on forced outage — two of which since 2023, three since between January and March 2024, and 11 since between April and May 2024.

Eight power plants are also currently running on derated capacities.

Meanwhile, both the Visayas and Mindanao grids are under normal conditions.
