Luzon and Visayas grids on yellow alert on May 20
MANILA, Philippines — National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has placed Luzon and Visayas grids under yellow alert on Monday as more than 30 power plants are unavailable.
According to NGCP, a yellow alert is issued “when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.”

Based on its 8 a.m. advisory, the grid operator has raised the yellow alert status in Luzon from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
NGCP reported that 2,040.8 megawatts are unavailable in the region after 19 power plants were on forced outage, while four were running on derated capacity.
Visayas was also placed under yellow alert from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
