MANILA, Philippines — Due to the thin power supply, National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) will place Luzon under yellow alert today, May 13.
In an advisory, NGCP said a yellow alert will be raised in the Luzon grid from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. as many power plants remain unavailable.
NGCP said the grid lost a supply of 2,050.5 megawatts as a total of 20 plants remain on forced outage.
It said five plants have been on forced outage since 2023, another five between January and March 2024, and 10 between April and May this year.

A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient but will not necessarily lead to power service interruptions.
NGCP explained that in the case of Luzon, the operating margin should be equivalent to 668 MW or the capacity of the largest power plant in the region to avoid the declaration of red or yellow alerts.
The available capacity in Luzon is 14,640 MW while demand is estimated to peak at 13,446 MW.
A yellow alert notice was last issued on May 6.
