MANILA, Philippines — The Luzon grid will be on yellow alert on Monday afternoon, with 16 power plants still on forced outage, said the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

According to the NGCP in advisory, the Luzon grid will be placed under yellow alert from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement,” the NGCP said.

Current available capacity in Luzon is 15,167 megawatts, while the peak demand is 13,714 megawatts.

Of the 16 power plants on forced outage, four have been on forced outage since 2023, three between January and March 2024, while the other 9 since April 2024.

Meanwhile, one power plant is running on derated capacity.

Due to these outages, a total of 1,406.8 megawatts are unavailable to the grid.
