MANILA, Philippines — Gaisano-led Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. is moving forward with its robust five-year expansion plan in Luzon after opening its 3-hectare Metro Distribution Center in Laguna province.
The company behind Metro Supermarket and Metro Department Store on Thursday said the “modern” distribution center could be further expanded within the 10-hectare property it occupied.
“The significance of this new and modern warehouse transcends more than just logistics,” Metro Retail chief operating officer Manuel Alberto said in a statement.

“It is the keystone of our ambitious plan to expand our Metro Store presence in Luzon, ensuring more communities have access to the quality services and products that Metro is known for, while also contributing to the local economy and providing employment opportunities,” he added.
Metro Retail currently has 64 branches—12 in Luzon and the rest in the Visayas—under its various store formats, including Super Metro Hypermarket and Metro Value Mart.
According to Metro Retail, the distribution center is capable of handling up to 25,000 cases daily for both inbound and outbound processes.
This translates to a maximum throughput of 1.5 million cases a month, which it said could support their Luzon and Visayas networks.
It also has 20 inbound and outbound docking areas, as well as solar panel-ready infrastructure.
