Globe, other Asia Pacific telcos form cross-border rewards program

MANILA, Philippines  Globe Telecom is joining an Asia Pacific alliance of telecommunications giants to establish a pioneering cross-border rewards program, allowing more than 10 million subscribers to redeem incentives across multiple countries.

Globe, which will participate through its Gomo PH brand, joins forces with Singapore Telecommunications, Thailand’s AIS, Hong Kong’s HKT, Optus of Australia, Taiwan Mobile and Indonesia’s Telkomsel  for this rewards program.

It said the service will be rolled out progressively in the second half the year.

“The program would enable travelers to earn and use rewards, claim and redeem unique deals for transport, dining, merchandise, services and enjoy other incentives when they travel to any of these markets,” Globe said.

“They would also access customer support from their telco via calls or online while overseas for free,” it added.

The Gomo PH brand currently allows customers to experience roaming services in over 160 destinations across the world.

“As a brand focused on providing unique experiences as our differentiator and having a deeper relationship with our subscribers, we are excited to partner with other leading telcos in the region through this rewards alliance to elevate the travel experience of our subscribers well beyond just connectivity,” Globe head of consumer mobile business Darius Delgado said in a statement.

“Through this program, we will be able to give cross-border perks, experiences and exclusive offers to our subscribers when they travel to partner destinations,” he added.

Tony Lin, chief consumer business officer at Taiwan Mobile, provided some examples how the rewards could be applied.

“Imagine browsing authentic Taiwanese souvenirs while waiting for your flight, and paying for all your purchases using your loyalty points. That’s the exciting innovation we’re bringing to travelers through the telco rewards alliance,” he said in the same statement.
