MANILA, Philippines —NOW Telecom intends to go for a broad expansion of its network and is pushing closer to its goal of rolling out 5G services after the National Telecommunications Commission renewed their radio station licenses within the 3.5 gigahertz spectrum earlier this month.
The license renewed for NOW Telecom, also enables 6G and satellite communications services.
“The reauthorization of our license, particularly within the strategic 3.5Ghz band, will substantially reinforce NOW Telecom’s stature as a burgeoning force in the nation’s telecom landscape, especially as we undertake the protection and connection of our most essential sectors,” company president and chief executive Rene Rosales said in a statement.
The license renewal will complement NOW Telecom’s project with the US Trade and Development Agency, which provided a $2.15-million grant for studying the feasibility of 5G mobile and network expansion.

The shift to 5G has been prompted by the increasing demand for faster internet connectivity at a time of heightened digitalization.
5G technology enables download rates of more than 10 gigabits per second, which is 100 times quicker than 4G.

Last month, parent company NOW Corp. said it plans to raise as much as $40 million to build connectivity infrastructure and solutions catering to government and enterprise clients.
The parent firm said the project shall implement the provisioning of communications hardware, software and services that these entities could avail of and connect their own private communications network for seamless interconnectivity. INQ
