DMCI Power sales up 7% on huge demand from Palawan

MANILA  —Consunji-led DMCI Power Corp. logged in 2023 a 7-percent growth in sales volume to 454 gigawatt-hours (GWh) due to stronger demand from Palawan.

In a stock exchange filing on Monday, DMCI Power said the province overtook Masbate as the company’s largest market, contributing 44 percent to the total sales volume.

Masbate and Oriental Mindoro, meanwhile, accounted for 34 percent and 22 percent, respectively.

“Our sales have grown steadily for 11 consecutive quarters because of solid demand and our targeted investments in underserved and unserved areas, reflecting our dedication to missionary electrification,” DMCI Power president Antonino Gatdula Jr. said.

DMCI Power started operating its P1.5-billion thermal power plant in Palawan in August as both domestic and international tourist arrivals grew.

Energy dispatch in Masbate climbed to 156 GWh from 148 GWh.

Oriental Mindoro sales slipped slightly by 2 percent to 97 GWh amid an increased availability of renewable energy power plants.

DMCI Power currently operates and maintains bunker-fired power plants and diesel generating sets in Masbate, Palawan and Oriental Mindoro. It also provides off-grid power to missionary areas through power supply agreements with three electric cooperatives.

DMCI Power’s total installed capacity grew by 17 percent to 160 megawatts (MW) in 2023.

The company would pursue this year its first renewable energy projects: a 12-MW onshore wind facility on Semirara Island in Antique and a 4-MW solar power plant in Masbate.
