McDonalds Philippines is strengthening its sustainability initiative with their core campaign Green and Good as a guiding principle for operating their 7th flagship store in Tarlac, which they recently opened to the public last November 30, 2023.

The Green and Good campaign, which was launched in 2020, is an initiative by McDonalds Philippines to continuously test and learn green solutions that could help establish and operate their stores in a sustainable manner.

Along with the discussion of the initiative, there was also a quick tour of the store, wherein some of the solutions the global fast food brand has in place in order to achieve sustainability were highlighted, such as using recycled materials in the construction of their branch, and turning to solar energy to power the store and save in energy costs and consumption.

Adi Hernandez, Assistant Vice President for Corporate Relations & Impact of McDonalds Philippines, stated that the initiative is driven by their goal or commitment towards responsible growth. ”This really doubles down on our responsibility to scale, [so] that whenever we open our stores, it would be better for any community, and of course it will not harm the environment.”

Hernandez maintains that right now, the main goal of the initiative is to really test and learn from the different green solutions that are available today.

We have to find which really works and which one will really deliver on our specific metrics for waste reduction, packaging reduction, and of course energy management,” she continued.

Customers could learn more about the different solutions within the initiative by scanning the QR code that can be found in the Green and Good token just right outside the store. The QR code leads to an Instagram filter that presents you with the energy savings it has achieved since their launch of the campaign.

In terms of partnering with government agencies or environmental organizations, Hernandez mentioned that they are currently sharing the Green and Good to different LGUs in the country. They very much appreciate how McDonalds looks at sustainability holistically that it is not just about a specific component but it starts all the way from construction and until we operate our stores day to day, so right now it is more of showcasing the different sustainability initiatives we have with the government and were lucky we have partnered with them for several activations that champion active mobility,” she stated.

With the future looking bright, we can look forward to the upcoming year thats more in tune with caring for the environment.

Hernandez closed by saying that McDonalds Philippines is also looking to scale the non-flagship stores that also operate with the Green and Good initiative.
