SM Group makes major push into grocery delivery services

MANILA, Philippines  -The Sy family’s SM Group is making a major push into grocery delivery services via WalterMart Supermarkets and logistics firm 2GO Group Inc.

SM Group-controlled 2GO Group was tapped as the primary logistics solutions and delivery partner for affiliate WalterMart Supermarket’s e-commerce business, a statement on Wednesday showed.

“This strategic collaboration provides WalterMart shoppers the seamless convenience of having their groceries delivered through 2GO, to 13 key cities across Metro Manila,” the logistics company said.

These areas include Caloocan, Malabon, Valenzuela, Quezon City, San Juan, Pasig, Makati, Taguig, Pasay, Las Piñas, Bicutan, Parañaque, and Muntinlupa. Additionally, it caters to specific areas in Manila, including Binondo, Tondo, San Andres, and Santa Ana.

“We have had a long-standing partnership with 2GO, and we trust in their commitment to ensuring our customers receive the best service,” said Victor Paul Intal, WalterMart assistant vice president for business development.

“With 2GO’s delivery services, we aim to maintain the high quality of goods delivered to our consumers’ doorsteps, aligning with WalterMart’s standards,” he added.

According to SM, 2GO will “operationalize” Waltermart’s grocery delivery service. This ensures “same day, scheduled on time delivery” to customers.

“We are honored to be WalterMart’s chosen logistics partner. Through 2GO, our objective is to bring daily essentials from stores directly to customers while ensuring standards of product quality,” Dennis Yaw, business unit head of 2GO Retail, said in the same statement.

2GO is one of the country’s leading transport and logistics firms. WalterMart is a major supermarket chain with 82 supermarket and department stores as of end-2022.

SM Retail acquired a controlling stake in Waltermart in 2013, according to the latest annual report of SM Investment Corp.
