Construction partners that inspire change

As the country aims for bigger goals in terms of property development and infrastructure building, the construction industry in the Philippines has also become highly competitive. Both the government and private players in property development have recognized the need to find suitable and reputable construction partners for their infrastructure or building projects that would help them deliver their goals.

Megawide Construction Corp. is among the country’s leading engineering and construction firms. It was established in 1997 and listed in the Philippine Stock Exchange in 2011. Megawide has assets in engineering, procurement, construction, and transport-oriented development.

Megawide has a wide-range portfolio, including contracts with the Philippine government through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) program.

In 2015, Megawide subsidiary MWM Terminals, Inc. won the 35-year contract to construct and operate the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX). Dubbed as the country’s first landport, the PITX is a 4.5-hectare development with transportation bays, commercial spaces, and office buildings. Located along Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard, it has a capacity to provide services to 100,000 passengers daily.

In 2018, Megawide was awarded the contract to build a second terminal for the Clark International Airport Expansion Project that will increase the airport’s capacity from 4 million to 12 million passengers annually. Clark Airport’s construction is a joint venture arrangement by Megawide, GMR Infrastructure (Singapore) Pte. Limited and GMR Holdings Overseas (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.

Megawide’s current projects include the Metro Manila Subway System, Malolos-Clark Railway Phase 1 project, and Megaworld Corporation’s Newport Link project.

Other developments include the City of Dreams by Belle Corporation in Parañaque City, Rockwell Business Center in Pasig City, Landers Warehouses by Southeast Asia Retail Inc. in Arcovia, Alabang, Balintawak and Otis, Arthaland Century Pacific Tower in Taguig City, and Megaworld’s Le Grand Avenue in Taguig City.

Megawide has also secured contracts for Megaworld’s Sunset business process outsourcing, Gentry Manor and Empire East Highland Mall.

Megawide was the builder of medium and large-scale residential buildings for some of the country’s biggest developers before it ventured into infrastructure. Among its residential projects include The Proscenium and Edades Suites by Rockwell Land Corporation in Makati City, Shang Salcedo Place in Makati City, and St. Moritz Private Estate Residences by Megaworld in Taguig City.

EEI

Another leading construction company in the country is EEI Corporation which offers a broad range of construction and engineering services. The firm has expertise in the construction of infrastructure, buildings, and industrial and electromechanical facilities. Its portfolio includes contracts and collaborations with global contractors, particularly in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific countries.

EEI has also been recognized by contractors worldwide for the quality of its work and for its safety records. EEI takes pride in obtaining the highest rating standard for contractors and certifications for quality, environment management, and occupational health and safety standards.

In October 2023, the Philippines and Saudi Arabia signed investment agreements worth $4.2 billion. The deal, according to a Palace statement, was between Saudi Arabia’s Al Rushaid Petroleum Investment Co. with Samsung Engineering NEC Co. and the Philippines’ EEI. The deal involves construction export services.

EEI took part in the construction of several high-rise office and residential buildings, hotels, mixed-use commercial developments, industrial parks, factory buildings, educational institutions, hospitals, and government facilities in the country.

Among their listed property developments include the Grand Hyatt by Bonifacio Landmark Realty and Development Corporation in Taguig City and the Eastwood Le Grand Tower III by Megaworld in Quezon City. EEI’s portfolio also includes the RCBC Plaza Towers in Makati City and the RCBC Savings Bank Corporate Center in Taguig City.

EEI also took part in the infrastructure building of the government through big-ticket projects like the MRT Guadalupe Bridge, the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3, the expansion of the North Luzon Expressway, and the NAIA Skyway. It’s also part of the ongoing construction of the Metro Manila Subway. EEI also contributed to the manufacturing industry of the country by helping build manufacturing plants and storage facilities.

DDTKI

One of the trusted names in the construction industry today is DDT Konstract, Inc. (DDTKI), which has managed to maintain over the years a collaborative relationship with construction professionals, consultants, technical experts and specialists to implement projects in accordance with the structural plans and specifications that follow strict quality control processes.

DDTKI complies with all requirements of the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board in terms of financial and technical capabilities and has been granted a license with Category “AAAA” for General Building and General Engineering. Its projects have been designed in accordance with the local and international structural codes.

DDTKI’s big break was the construction of SM Molino mall in Bacoor, Cavite. This led to the firm winning larger and more important projects with the SM Group such as the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City and many other shopping centers across the country. DDTKI has also partnered with some of the largest real estate companies and conglomerates in the country such as Ayala Land, SM, Filinvest Land, Robinsons Land and several others.

Some mixed-use developments that DDTKI took part in include SMDC’s Light Residences in Mandaluyong City and Shore Residences in Pasay City, and Eton Properties’ Eton WestEnd Square in Makati City.

DDTKI’s Ayala portfolio in the Philippines also includes the Glorietta 5 in Makati City, the Nuvali Retail Center in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, the Centrio Mall and Seda Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City, and Abreeza Mall in Davao City. DDKTI also took part in building Robinsons’ Cyberscape Gamma office in Pasig City and Trion Towers in Taguig City.

ASEC

Established in 1993, ASEC Development and Construction Corp. (ASEC) has under its belt a modest list of commercial buildings, educational institutions, hotels and resorts, residential structures, and public infrastructures all over the country.

In Metro Manila, some residential towers that ASEC has constructed include Megaworld’s The Ellis in Makati City, Landco Pacific’s Tribeca Towers in Muntinlupa City, and Anchor Land’s Clairemont Hills in San Juan City.

In Cebu City, there are Cebu Land Masters’ Asia Premier Residences, Federal Land’s Marco Polo Residences, and Gold Peach Properties’ City Soho, among others.

Some of the commercial projects that ASEC has undertaken include Federal Land’s MET Live in Pasay City and Anchor Land’s Two Shopping Center in Pasay City.ASEC also took part in the construction of several hotels and resorts like the Crown Regence Hotel in Makati and the Crown Regency Convention Center in Boracay, Aklan, and the Twin Lakes Vineyard Residences in Batangas.
