Metro Pacific Investments Corp. has expressed an interest in the planned extension of the Light Railway Transit 1 from Baclaran to Cavite.

“We would be interested … but it’s difficult to say whether we would be bidding for it. We don’t know the terms of reference (for the bidding) but we’d be interested in the light rail generally,” said MPIC head Manuel V. Pangilinan.

MPIC has yet to get hold of the terms of reference for the LRT-1 extension bidding, which is supposed to be conducted sometime in March or April, Pangilinan said at the sidelines of the Manila Electric Co.’s Luminaries awarding ceremonies Monday night.

“We don’t know enough about it to be able to say yes we will. But this early, we would be interested to look at it,” he added.

The Department of Transportation and Communications on Monday announced the bidding for the crucial, big-ticket mass transportation project estimated to be worth around P45 billion. It will be undertaken under the public-private partnership program of the government.
