MANILA  -The Cavite government is keen on working with the private entity, which will bag the highly coveted Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) rehabilitation contract as it positions the Sangley Point International Airport (SPIA) project as the alternative gateway.

Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla told reporters in General Trias on Monday they were awaiting for the results of P170.6-billion Naia rehab project bidding process before taking further steps.

The Virata-Yuchengco-led consortium signed a joint venture and development agreement with the Cavite government for the $11-billion SPIA project in February. It submitted a $5-billion performance bond, which is a financial guarantee to ensure completion of the project.

Remulla said they were targeting to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for SPIA after awarding of the Naia upgrade project, which is set on the first quarter of next year.

Groundbreaking would be followed by four years of construction for the first runway and another four years for the second runway. INQ
