BIZ BUZZ: Traffic? Senator flies PAF

This senator with ambitions to soar high above her post likes to stay above it all— quite literally, in fact.

Onlookers in one of the “greater” schools in Caloocan discovered this abruptly when their open field was transformed into a helipad by a Philippine Air Force (PAF) Black Hawk chopper at past 3 p.m. last Thursday.

Stepping out of the helicopter was the senator, who apparently had no business in the school but was off to visit the city hall nearby, Biz Buzz sources said.

She was ushered by umbrella-wielding bodyguards from the chopper and through the school’s premises to a convoy of SUVs waiting outside.

Of course, there are many possible reasons why a ranking civilian official or a lawmaker may need to travel in a military vehicle. Some reasons may be valid, while others less so. So these same observers are just hoping this doesn’t become a habit because that might not be the best use of taxpayers’ pesos.

So is it normal these days for lawmakers to fly around the traffic-choked Philippine capital using military hardware? It’s hard to tell anymore. Our sources said she was in Pasay earlier in the day and made a stopover in Rizal before making landfall in Caloocan.
