Quezon Provincial council okays Alternergy’s 99-MW wind farm
MANILA -Renewable energy developer Alternergy Holdings Corp. has garnered the support of Quezon’s provincial council to proceed with the development of its 99-megawatt (MW) wind project on Alabat Island.
In a disclosure on Tuesday, Alternergy said the endorsement from the Provincial Development Council of Quezon was one of the last few preconstruction clearances needed for the Alabat Wind Power Project.
Alternergy expects to receive by the second quarter of 2024 the notice to proceed with the construction of the Alabat wind facility on Luzon’s eastern seaboard.
The planned wind project “is seen to be beneficial to the socioeconomic development of the province and its constituent,” the company said, quoting the provincial council.
“Our Alabat Wind Power Project is committed to delivering sustainable energy and growth to our community,” Alternergy president Gerry Magbanua said.
The listed power firm said it’s accelerating the development of Alabat and Tanay wind projects, with a combined capacity of up to 164 MW, which are slated for completion by 2025.
It clinched contracts to develop both projects via the second round of the government’s Green Energy Auction program in July.
Early this month, Alternergy’s board of directors approved the reallocation of P143 million out of the P1.6 billion funds raised from its initial public offering to build two onshore wind projects: P80 million for the Alabat wind project and P63 million for the Tanay wind facility in Rizal. Both projects are in the predevelopment stage.
For the Alabat project, Alternergy installed the 80-meter tall meteorological mast to validate the strength and capacity of wind resource in the area. Once completed, it will be connected to the power grid through the 69-kilovolt distribution system of Quezon 1 Electric Cooperative Inc.In the case of the Tanay project, it installed the 84-meter meteorological mast below Mt. Batolusong along with other equipment near Mt. Bangkaan to gather wind resource data.
Alternergy aims to develop up to 1,370 MW of additional wind, offshore wind, solar and run-of-river hydro projects as part of its renewable energy expansion plans.
It has a portfolio of project companies engaged in different renewable projects, particularly wind, hydro and solar energy as well as battery storage projects. INQ
