Ikea PH eyes full E-vehicles delivery operations

MANILA  -The local unit of Swedish retail chain and home furnishings company Ikea on Friday said it has plans for an eventual shift to electric vehicles (EVs) on their delivery operations in the Philippines as part of the company’s thrust toward sustainability.

In a televised interview over the ABS-CBN News Channel on Friday, Ikea country sales manager Leontina Bucur said that while they are already using EVs in their deliveries in the Philippines today, the goal is towards a full shift to these more environmentally friendly vehicles.

“We plan to expand even more. We have a big ambition, like for Metro Manila in the future, to deliver only with EV trucks,” Bucur said.

“And of course, for the other islands, it’s not so easy like it is here in Metro Manila, but we are still looking to have the most sustainable way to deliver our goods and we are working with different transport companies to have the best delivery,” she added.

Currently, Ikea Philippines does deliveries to Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, covering around 71 percent of the products they are selling, ranging from small articles to furniture.

Earlier this week, Ikano Retail—the Ikea franchisee that brings Swedish home furnishings to the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Mexico—reported that Philippines’ sales from September 2022 to August 2023 totaled P8.7 billion.

Storage products were the most sold products in the country among all 13 of Ikano Retail’s Ikea stores, with Malm chest of four drawers, the iconic Billy bookcase and the Kleppstad wardrobe among the favorites.
